Dolce and gabbana light blue review

The Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue line has made waves, both literally and figuratively (Get it?), in the world of perfumery. The releases are typically jubilant and bright citrus scents based on the Mediterranean region that the iconic fashion brand calls home. For this article, I will be comparing and dissecting 3 releases. The original EDT, Forever, and Summer Vibes. Since there are so many releases, I might break it down into several articles, and then do a final one that covers the entire line, but three is good enough for now…

Light Blue Pour Homme Eau de Toilette:

Main Notes : Grapefruit, Bergamot, Pepper, Musk, and Ambroxan

The original release that started it all in 2007, which feels like it’s a classic at this point, but it has only been 16 years. I guess that might be quite a while for some folks. This release is highlighted by a clean musky grapefruit and bergamot harmony that is just simply attractive. While it can feel a bit generic since many have copied the fragrance’s DNA and twisted it, Light Blue was new and exciting when it was released, and it still is to me. As one of the scents that started me down my fragrance path, I have a special adoration for the scent.

Light Blue Forever:

Main Notes: Grapefruit, Violet, and Musk

Light Blue Forever is quite possibly the most unique in the line, bolstering a realistic bitter grapefruit accord in comparison to the original’s smoother and fresher version. It boasts a fresh and airy feeling, that reminds us of a clear blue sky with a cool breeze and the same linen-like musk that is used in the original, but with more of a crisp cleanliness due to the floral aspects.

Light Blue Summer Vibes:

Main Notes – Lemon, Ambroxan, and Cypress

Summer Vibes is the newest release in 2023. Displaying the most unique bottle yet, the scent is more of a blue fragrance with a shower gel type quality to it, and the simplicity of clean lemon that is void the beautiful tartness in the natural material. A vague woodiness sits at the base, but it’s almost indistinguishable to me.

The Scent Porfile:

When looking at the scent profile of the three, I believe the EDT to be the best for most people. It’s the most pleasant and safe. Forever is by far the most interesting, but unless you love bitter grapefruit, then you will not enjoy it. Summer Vibes is by far the most mundane of the triplet and would likely end up on the bottom of the entire line, as far as the scent alone goes.

The Performance:

As far as strength goes, Forever is by far the most powerful, but don’t expect the fragrance to reach the sun. Summer Vibes comes in second here, lasting a moderate 6 hours. The EDT comes in last, only sticking around for 4-5 hours.

The Versatility:

The most versatile is the original, which can be worn as a business casual scent. None of the Light Blue scents are formal, and they are not meant to be. They are carefree summer fragrances, and the goal is for them to be used casually. Summer Vibes is the second most versatile, even being a shower gel scent. It lacks the incense and complexity of Acqua di Gio Profumo and Bleu de Chanel. Those are much more versatile and can be worn formally. Forever is the most niche smelling, and therefore it is the least versatile of the three, even if I would personally wear it in the same situations as the EDT.

Overall:

The EDT reigns supreme overall, in my opinion. I guess the sayings about the sequels never being as good as the original holds true, even though I could argue that, even with some Light Blue flankers. Forever has the best scent and I enjoy that one the most personally. Summer Vibes doesn’t even warrant a purchase for me, even though the bottle is amazing.

A Short Breakdown:

Light Blue Eau de Toilette – Versatile, friendly, with laundry cleanliness from musk. Vibrant fresh citruses that are neither juicy nor tart. Safe and well-liked.

Light Blue Forever – Bitter grapefruit with ozonic violet and a more linen-like musk to keep it a it cleaner than the original. Not as mass-appealing, but still well-received.

Light Blue Summer Vibes – Perfect for someone who wants a simple scent without depth and complexity. Office safe, but not very interesting compared to the rest of the line.

All three scents do have their audience, and it’s difficult to choose between the three. This is only my personal opinion, and I will make another comparison in a few weeks that will include the ever popular Eau Intense version.

Summer is almost here, and that means it’s Light Blue Season. Which one is your favorite? Do you enjoy several from this line? If so, how many have you tried? I think I have personally tried all of them except Italian Love, Love is Love, and Discover Volcano.

What does Dolce Gabbana light blue smell like?

Light Blue features notes of green apple, Sicilian lemon, bluebell, and cedar layered with jasmine, bamboo, white rose, and a base of amber, musk, and wood all wrapped up in one captivating scent that truly encapsulates the joy of living on a beautiful day.

The scent was inspired by sunny summers in Sicily, described by the brand as a "lively, fresh, floral and fruity fragrance that evokes the sensuality of the Mediterranean woman." With that description, it's no surprise that it eventually became one of the brand's most popular scents, if not their most famous.
