Why is hotspot disabled on my phone?

We want you connected, and Mobile Hotspot should give you Wi-Fi wherever you go.

Read me first

Check your connecting device:

 Make sure it is within 15 feet of the hotspot.

 Try connecting a different computer or T-Mobile device to the hotspot. We can't support game systems, TVs, or non-T-Mobile phones or tablets.

 Check that all timeout, power saving, or hibernate features are off.

 Test to see if it can successfully connect to other Wi-Fi networks. If not, the problem is not with the hotspot.

 Try accessing a different website or app. If they work are expected, the hotspot is not the problem.

 Close or disable any programs running in the background and clear the browser cache & history.

 Make sure it's connected to the right Wi-Fi network.

Hotspot connection issues

Smartphone Mobile Hotspot (SMHS)

Supported T-Mobile phones and tablets that use your T-Mobile network as Wi-Fi for other devices.

  • Check the T-Mobile app to verify that you haven’t exceeded the high-speed data amount included in your plan.
  • If your phone can load a web page, the T-Mobile data works. Contact the other device manufacturer.

Mobile Hotspot equipment

T-Mobile standalone Mobile Hotspot devices, not your phone, that provide a Wi-Fi connection for other devices.

  • Mobile Hotspot devices only support using WPS security.
  • The connecting device must have a b/g Wi-Fi radio.
  • If the Hotspot is plugged into a USB port, disconnect it.

Once you've checked all of the above:

  1. Make sure you're in T-Mobile coverage and have at least 2 bars of signal in your area. If you're roaming, check out our Data Passes.
  2. Verify that the Mobile Hotspot or Smartphone Mobile Hotspot feature is turned on.
  3. Check that the connecting device's Wi-Fi is turned on.
  4. Update to the latest firmware version for all devices.
  5. Restart the Hotspot device or phone.
  6. Restart the devices you are trying to connect to the Hotspot.
  7. Delete the Wi-Fi profile on the connecting device and re-add it.

Standalone Mobile Hotspot equipment doesn't turn on

  1. Check the charging indicator lights up when you plug in your Hotspot. This can take up to 20 minutes.
  2. Use the charger that came with the device. Test an alternate if one is available.
  3. Plug the Mobile Hotspot into the charger first, then plug the charger into a wall outlet.
  4. Try a different power outlet. Make sure the outlet works with another device, like a lamp.

Problem:

The phone's portable Wi-Fi hotspot is automatically disabled, and a message is displayed in the notification panel indicating that the hotspot is disabled (no devices connected, hotspot has been disabled, or battery life will be extended.).

Why is hotspot disabled on my phone?

Cause:

To increase the battery life of your phone, the portable Wi-Fi hotspot will be automatically disabled if no devices are connected to this hotspot within 10 minutes after it has been enabled (for versions earlier than EMUI 9.0, it is 2 minutes; this does not apply to devices running EMUI 9.0 where this duration cannot be changed). This is a new feature in EMUI 8.0 and later versions.

Why is hotspot disabled on my phone?

Why is hotspot disabled on my phone?

Making sure the internet connection is available

A lot of android users share their hotspot connection, to use it on other devices like tablets or laptops.  The connection is stable, but still, they can’t open any kind of web page or application if the android hotspot has no internet . Have you ever wondered why this happens?

This happens if your internet plan has expired. So it is recommended that you set a daily limit of your data plan to avoid this issue.  If this seems too hectic for you, then make a call with the service provider and ask to them enroll you in a plan that has unlimited data daily.

Turning off the Wifi and switching it back on

 In some cases, there are chances that your wifi is having a problem in receiving the connection. In this case, you can try to turn off wifi and then switch it back again. Head over to the top edge of your android mobile and then swipe down the bar from that edge. You will see the wifi option available there. Switch it off and then turn it back again.

Restarting your phone  

The working mechanism of computers and smart phones is similar. See when your computer gets hanged suddenly, your instant reaction is to shut it down. After restarting it, you see that your computer is performing fine again. Why is hotspot disabled on my phone?

Recreating your hotspot

This basically means removing the previous password from your hotspot and replacing it with the new one. Change your old password and replace it with a new one. Doing this, you have just created a new hotspot for your android device.  If this solution doesn’t work we move on to the next

Turn off the power-saving mode

The hotspot in your android device is showing issues since your power saving mode is turned off.  For this follow the following steps

  • Head over to the battery option which you will find in the setting menu on your phone
  • Now  tap on the power saving mode and turn it off
  • After that, check your hotspot connection again. This should fix your issue

Checking the bandwidth

The latest smart phones come with a 5GHz frequency. Others don’t have this feature. So this means that even if you have used a trick to make your android to go with 5GHz frequency your hotspot will be showing issue  if your mobile is not supported for 5GHz

Follow the following steps to fix this issue

  • First, you should switch back your android phone with the supported bandwidth which is 2.4Ghz
  • In order to do this, head over to the settings and then go to the option known as network and internet
  • After that, tap on the option known as hotspot and tethering and then click on wifi hotspot
  • Now you will get an option known as the AP band.  Here select the option known as 2.4Ghz

This should fix the issue, if not, we move on to the next solution

Checking the receiving device

There may be a case, where your hotpot is perfectly fine, but your receiver device may have issues. The receiving device may have a problem in hardware and software and hence your hotpot is not managing a good connection

Factory reset

Factory resetting your phone would mean that all your data will be wiped out and your phone will start as if it was new. For this, you need to head over to your settings tab and then search for factory reset. This will wipe out all the glitches in your phone and it will start fresh. Now check your wifi connection again to see if it is working properly

Finding out a phone service provider

Additional mention:  

The new range of smart phones has the feature of switching off your hotspot if it’s not connected a few minutes. This might cause your hotspot to show issues. In order to avoid that disable the option which says “turning on the wifi automatically”.

For this solution to work follow the syntax: network and internet > wifi hotspot > switch off the wifi

Why is my hotspot showing disabled?

On most Android phones, your hotspot is turned off automatically if you don't connect your devices within the specified time frame. This may be the feature causing issues with your hotspot, as your hotspot gets disabled even before your devices get a chance to connect.

Why can't i enable hotspot on my phone?
