I'm having a strange problem with VMW Workstation 6.5 and Windows Server 2008. Whenever I try and install it I get the following error: Windows could not clean disk 0. The specified disk does not exist. The error occurred while applying the unattend answer file's <Disk Configuration> setting. Error code 0x80300025 This always appears right after I have selected the type of Win Server 2008 install (Standard, Enterprise etc). In other words, right after the first part of the GUI install. As a bit of background information; My host OS is Windows XP Pro SP3 installed on an 80gb IDE hard drive, set as the master on IDE1. VMWare is installed on this same drive, as are all my VMWare virtual disks. I get this error when using both the original DVD media and when using the ISO downloaded from Microsoft’s Volume Licence site. Both versions are legitimate copies that I have a licence to use (through my company). I had a PCI SATA card in my PC, and I originally had two SATA drives connected to it. On one I installed my OS (windows xp pro SP3) and used the second as my VMWare storage drive. I got the exact same error when doing it this way, and so assumed that the error was caused by some weirdness with the SATA controller. I then completely removed the SATA drive and went back to the single IDE drive as described above. I have a second PC running a trial of VMWare workstation. This PC has one SATA drive with Win XP as the host OS and I have no problems installing Win Server 2008 at all. This PC has SATA ports directly on the motherboard, as opposed to a PCI card in the computer. I've tried the standard installation options, the custom install options, but no matter what I do, I seem to get the same error. As an aside, I can install Windows XP as a virtual machine with no problem. Can anyone out there help me ? I really have run out of ideas and for once, Google hasn't come to my rescue!! |
