Editor assignment pending then reviews completed năm 2024

The journal says the average time from submission to decision is 3 months, so I figured "under review" would take a week or two, but after 5 weeks the paper status is still listed as "pending editor assignment", does that mean they sent it out but just didn't change the status? When would you inquire about what is going on, perhaps on the false pretense of trying to ensure that you had completed the submission process fully?

  • Economist d1e9 Hard to tell if a journal is slow or someone just didn't use the editorial system properly so it's showing you an incorrect status. I had both happen to me, and in each case I found out after inquiring. I personally would wait for another couple of weeks, but still after 5 weeks it seems legitimate to ask why no editor has been assigned. You don't need to make any false pretenses, just send a polite e-mail asking about the status. 9 years ago 1 Good 1 No Giod !

Don't lie. Look at the wiki as the above user suggested and if the wait is out of the ordinary then email the managing editor. 9 years ago 0 Good 0 No Giod !

Don't lie. Look at the wiki as the above user suggested and if the wait is out of the ordinary then email the managing editor. I appreciate your advice not to fabricate an excuse for the email, but looking at the wiki is not very useful in my case. The journal provides its processing time information, which is a better sample than just the handful of observations on the wiki, and the wiki doesn't tell anything about the time spent under the pending editor status. I looked at the wiki before I submitted and most of the responses suggest first response in 3-5 months (a bit longer than the journal's reported average), but that doesn't seem relevant to my issue. Are you suggesting I wait 3-5 months before asking why the status is still pending editor assignment? 9 years ago 0 Good 0 No Giod !

3adf I think economics is sort of infamous of slow review process in journals while it is not in other science fields like engineering. But, according to your bad experience, that problem is not only for economics but like universal. Actually, I have a similar experience in an econ. journal. I was waiting in the "editor invited" about a month, and then, went to the "under review" process. I think you better to check the average time of first decision. If 6 weeks seems a bit long but endurable then wait like several weeks more. Hope you hear a good news soon, bro. The status "Editor assignment pending" means that your paper has still not been assigned to an AE. You have not mentioned how long it has been since you submitted your paper; however, if it has been more than a month, you can consider writing a polite email to the journal asking for an update.
