This is not Obi-Wan's John Williams, but harkens back to when he was know as jazz guitartist Johnny Williams. The music is as light, upbeat and energetic as is much of the movie while having a character of its own. I particularly like the opening title song. It encapsulates the era, the movement and characters especially in his use of staccato-like finger snapping.

Thrown into this mix are recordings from the era such as Sinatra's Come Fly With Me and The Girl from Ipanema (see Diana Krall's Quiet Nights for a lovely breathy rendition of Boy from Ipanema) that are so effectively incorporated in the storyline.

A thoroughly delightful soundtrack from a master stretching himself into a very different sound than he uses in the big summer movies like Star Wars and Superman. Technically well produced (with the exceptions of the original recordings - they retain their limitations). A perfect champagne and bon bon musical experience.

This score is so unlike anything else John Williams composes. It is a delightful, delicious, innovative interplay of jazz, saxophone and big orchestral sounds sublimely interwoven. It worked wonderfully in the movie. It is a joy to listen to on its own. Heartily recommended.

I LOVE this album. I have misplaced my cd of it, so I went on Amazon and bought the digital version of it. It downloaded as a zip file.....it plays just fine, but how can I burn a cd from these zipped files? Thanks!

I heard a wonderful performance of John Williams' "Escapades for Saxaphone and Orchestra" by Branford Marsalis and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. That music is based on the soundtrack of "Catch Me If You Can". I couldn't find a recording of the Escapades, so the soundtrack CD was a natural choice. This is a CD that you won't get tired of. By the way, if you buy the movie DVD too, then you will get a second way to enjoy the music. It's a great listen!

It's quite different than John Williams regular soundtracks. It's good for the most part and I would recommend it to anyone. Not so sure I care for the other songs that are not by him. But these are good.

This is a pretty good score, different from the normal John Williams stuff (Star Wars, Superman). The classic music thrown into the CD with the score really brings you back to the scenes from the movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth Catching

When watching this film, it was only with the end credits that the title theme caught my ear, and impressed me enough to seek out a copy of the full soundtrack. This is not "vintage" John Williams, with bold, powerful themes a la Star Wars or Jurassic Park. The title is decidedly rooted in the sound of the 50's and 60's and almost "Mancini-esque", evocative of the jazz idioms that were so pervasive at the time the film is set. It is quite unlike most of his other scores, and perhaps more interesting for that reason. Set along side real sounds from the era ("The Girl from Ipanema," "Embraceable You" and "The Look of Love," Williams music is the perfect accompaniment for a dry martini.

5.0 out of 5 stars Williams counterbalances the popular

The soundtrack that John Williams has composed for this film can feel at times dark and foreboding. It is the mixture of sixties iconic songs that lifts the musical tail out of the dark and into the cheeky presumption that in the sixties you can do anything.

Throughout the score the saxophone lines were quite chromatic and many times doubled with vibraphone by one of LA's finest percussionists, Alan Estes. It was a pleasure having Alan's great time and concept during the faster passages we shared.
