Nivea creme and oil pearls review

Nivea has always been a nice pick when it comes to body wash and now they’ve added a newbie to their line up – Nivea Care Shower Creme Oil Pearls (R39,99). Available in two variants, Cherry Blossom and Lotus, each wash is infused with sunflower and argan oil so it’s a nice way to come clean without drying out your skin during the winter.

‘Cos oil pearls are where it’s at, yo!

I was given the Cherry Blossom variant at a launch the other day and really like that it makes a nice, silky-feeling lather. (Great to shave your legs with!) According to NIVEA, they’ve added 50% more oils in comparison to their old creme wash formula and a quick look at their ingredients list shows it contains a really nice amount of argan oil – even more of it than the sunflower oil!

Another way I’m blitzing winter dryness is by indulging in hydrating face masks and one that I enjoyed using, mostly for the super fun skrik factor, is Filorga’s jet black cloth number – Time-Filler Mask Super Smoothing black mask (R155, Skinmiles*).

Once you go black…

It’s aim is to help smooth out wrinkles but I don’t see how any single use product (aside from Botox – ha!) could do that with any long-term effect, but it can help soften them up temporarily thanks to ultra hydrating ingredients like glycerin and collagen. (For the record, collagen, when applied topically, can only hydrate. It can’t bind to or replace the collagen in your skin.) It also makes use of exfoliators gluconolactone and lactic acid, but not in a high concentration, so the effect would be very mild.

Is this a new Tinder profile pic?

After using it (and taking a few fun selfies), my skin felt hydrated and plump. It’s the kind of thing I’d reach for after a long flight or on a morning when I’m hungover for a nice, hydrating boost if I didn’t have a hyaluronic acid serum at hand or felt like I wanted extra moisture but delivered in a fun way that felt a li’l more ‘spalicious’.

Lastly, Yardley are churning out the newbies lately and have just launched a bunch of eye shadow quads (R116,95). Most of the quads contains at least one matte shade (some contain two) along with satin textures so look carefully if you have a preference towards either finish.

Newbie alert! (I’m holding Foxtail Lily).

I’ve found them nicely pigmented and easy to blend and was most drawn to the quad called Wanderlust as I like bronzey colours as I think they flatter blue eyes best. (The majority of the quads, however, are more geared to brown-eyed girls, I think.)

This is Wanderlust – three satin shades and a matte one.

I can see four of them are listed in Clicks’ online store (God, how much do we love shopping Clicks online?!) but know there are at least five in total so step into store to check out the full collection.

*You can find Filorga at selected Clicks, Edgars and Red Square stores but I’d recommend you buy from Skinmiles as it’s R20 less.

Today’s review is on Nivea Cream Shower with Oil pearls – Ylang Ylang. I love trying different bath products and now that summers are coming up, I wanted to try something floral and fragrant. I was excited see the new shower products from Nivea with oil pearls in 3 different variants. I picked all three, and this post, I would be reviewing the Ylang-Ylang Shower Cream.

My Experience with Nivea Creme and Oil Pearls Ylang-Ylang Shower Cream:

Ylang Ylang is a flower typically found in Indonesia and the essential oil from it is used in aroma therapy. Needless to say, the fragrance is just heavenly!

The packaging looks just lovely. It comes in a big tube packaging with a flap lid. The whole packaging is very sturdy and travel safe. Since this shower cream comes in a tube, which is not so common for shower gels, it looks kind of fancy. Also, the whole packaging is dark blue in color (the typical Nivea color) with a dreamy picture of Ylang Ylang.

The shower gel is white in color with yellow oil pearls. The texture is creamy and comfortable to use. The oil pearls are very soft and do not have exfoliating beads. The oil pearls are very small (smaller than mustard) and melt off when they come in contact in skin. The pearls are extremely mild on the skin. The shower gel itself looks like shampoo. It is kind of translucent.

These pearls are supposed to contain argan oil, which we all know, is very moisturizing to the skin.

The shower gel when used on wet skin turns very creamy and feels very rich and pampering to the skin. It does not produce a lot of foam, but sufficient enough. The oil beads melt away as you work with them and release the oil they contain. This product is really nourishing and I enjoyed using it. Nivea has done a good job with this shower cream.

Ylang Ylang also smells great, quite flowery, but at the same time, very fresh and exotic. It’s not overwhelming and is quite pleasant. I feel it’s a kind of fragrance which many will like and prefer. I felt that the Ylang Ylang fragrance in this shower cream is not artificial. I have never seen the flower in real life, but still didn’t find the fragrance artificial.

After the shower, my skin feels very soft, smooth and nice. The fragrance of the shower gel lasts for a few hours, it’s not a strong one, gets mild.

The fragrance makes this shower cream perfect fit for summer and spring seasons. One can even skip body lotion if you do not have dry skin with this shower cream. Overall, it’s a lovely body wash which I enjoyed using.
