Lỗi no text of specified style trong word năm 2024

The “No text of specified style in document” error in Microsoft Word indicates a problem with a style reference. Style references are fields in Word that are used to automatically generate content. Examples are table of contents, , and figure tables.

If the field to which the reference is pointing cannot be found, the mentioned error will show.

A style reference in Word looks like this:

{STYLEREF "stylename" [switches]}

or, for an example of a table:

Table { STYLEREF 2\s}-{SEQ Table * ARABIC \s 4}

You can view these codes by pressing the Alt + F9 keys in MS Word.

The most common usage for STYLEREF is to pick up chapter titles in the headers. To fix the error in Word for figure tables, follow these steps to exclude the chapter number from the captions:

  1. From the Insert menu, choose Reference, and then click Caption.
  2. Click the Numbering button.
  3. Uncheck the Include chapter number box.
    Lỗi no text of specified style trong word năm 2024
  4. Click the OK button twice.

Note: These instructions are for Word XP.

In later versions of Word, the instructions differ a little because Microsoft changed the user interface for Word.

Here are the steps for Word 2019:

  1. In the menu click the References option.
  2. On the Ribbon, click the Insert Caption button.
    Lỗi no text of specified style trong word năm 2024
  3. In the Caption dialog box, click the Numbering button.
    Lỗi no text of specified style trong word năm 2024
  4. Uncheck the Include chapter number checkbox.
    Lỗi no text of specified style trong word năm 2024
  5. Click OK twice to close both dialog boxes.

After making changes to any fields or field settings in Word, make sure to update the fields. To do this, press Ctrl + A to select all content, and then press the F9 key.

If you just want to update a single field, simple select it, right-click, and select the option Update Field.

Hi all,

I need your help to fix the problem "Error! No text of specified style in document", which is occurred in the cross-referencing of figure captions in my document

I have a 70 page document, with about 50 figures(total document size is about 20Mb). In the text while discussing about the figures i have used Insert -> Reference -> cross reference to cross reference the figures into text. But after printing the document in to PDF format, all cross referenced fields were displaying with error message "Error! No text of specified style in document". Then to fix the problem, i tried to update the fields in the whole document by selecting whole document(Ctrl A), then again all the cross referenced fileds displayed the same error. then i did undo the fields update and tried to update each figure caption individually. If i am doing the individual field update again i am getting the same error with the actual caption under the each actual figure.

Please help me out to fix the problem as early as possible.

Many thanks

Are you sure that the appropriate heading style is applied to text and that it is numbered correctly (using outline numbering)?

1. Update Field - Maybe you have modified the field code and forgot to update the field. Word still uses the old code.

  • Right-click the field, and select "Update Field" from the popup menu.
  • Press Alt-F9 (and again) to display the field value.

2. Edit Field - Change the field to use the correct style. Maybe you have changed document to use different style.
