Heaven sword dragon sabre 2009 review năm 2024

Over the last decade, hotshot costume drama producer Zhang Jizhong has brought many of Jin Yong's classic martial arts novels to the small screen, including the Huang Xiaoming-starring Royal Tramp and Return of the Condor Heroes and the Li Yapeng-starring Legend of the Condor Heroes and The Smiling, Proud Wanderer. In 2009 he offers a hit new adaptation of Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre (a.k.a. Yi Tian Tu Long Ji). Deng Chao (Assembly) stars as the hero of the story Zhang Wuji, a pure-hearted swordsman who gets inexorably pulled into the disputes of the previous generation. He also caught between two women - Ady An (as Zhau Min) and Liu Jing (as Zhou Zhiruo) - who straddle the lines of good and evil.

Ten years ago, a heroic couple was kidnapped to a remote island to look for the Dragon Sabre. Returning to the mainland with their son Wuji, they become the target of all the swordsmen who want to know the whereabouts of the legendary weapon and its notorious owner. The couple commits suicide to uphold their honor, leaving Wuji an orphan to adventure in the martial arts world alone...

Here come just another remake of classic from Jin Yong’s Condor Heroes trilogy which is Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber (HSDS) 2019. This is like the 100th (exaggeration) remakes of this trilogy already honestly. Therefore I think pretty much everyone that have watched this series would have guessed how the story goes.

Spoiler tag will not be used for this one because there’s technically no spoiler. LOL. Unless this is the first time you have watch any of Jin Yong series, then i guess its a SPOILER!

Personally I did not watch this series in full. I have been skipping here and there throughout the series to look for the main part that is memorable for me. The story for this adaptation started off pretty okay-ish with the young Zhang Wu Ji. Honestly that kid deserves a medal. Very good acting.

I personally think the good part of this adaptation is the detailed scene. Certain scenes were not portrayed in previous version of the series i.e. the scene where Yin Liting was attacked after his descend from Guangming Peak.

There are three scenes I always anticipated from HSDS. The first one is the moment where Zhang Wu Ji rose to speak against Abbess Mie Jue on their way to Guangming Peak. The second one is Zhang Wu Ji versus all sects at Guangming Peak. The third one is Zhang Wu Ji defending Wudang from Zhao Min.

The first scene was meh for me. If I remember correctly, Zhang Wu Ji was never hesitant to take the three palm strikes from Abbess Mie Jue as part of her condition to let the Ming Sect people go. In this version, Zhang Wu Ji was being overly “humbled” by repeating that he is not a match of Abbess Mie Jue. Dude, make up your mind. Previous Zhang Wu Ji just agreed to Abbess Mie Jue’s condition and take the hit silently.

The second scene was passable. Nothing notable to watch honestly. It wasn’t that interesting nor it got me hyped. And the last scene was too simple in my opinion. I read the comic before, and that last scene was a lot better in the comic. LOL.

Now, moving to the main actor. I have mixed opinion about this Zhang Wu Ji. But one thing for sure, he got good voice. LMAO. Well, if you remember the scene where he got out of the valley and he shouted? I deduced he got a good singing voice from there. Turns out, he is a singer after all.

this scene

I hate this overly emotional version of Zhang Wu Ji. He cried on almost every scene I can remember. In fact, not only Zhang Wu Ji, it seems that almost every characters in this version are emotional. Especially Abbess Mie Jue. We are aware that Abbess Mie Jue is known to be very cruel towards sects she assumed demonic and not righteous. For the very first time, she cried when she had to kill Ji Xiaofu.

There are a lot of minor scenes that comes in between that I had to skip most of them. Because it got pretty boring later on. Hence I mainly focus on the main storyline only. Zhao Min and Zhou Zhiruo are pretty. Can’t say they are the best but this Zhou Zhiruo caught my eyes after she repented.

Man, so pretty

While Zhou Zhiruo is pretty, I prefer a girl like Zhao Min more. But she is the kind that you don’t want as enemy. Too smart and intelligent. I cringe at Zhao Min early on but she gets better later on. But the prettiest among the girls I would say is Yin Su Su.

This version of the series has been draggy while its normally ended around episode 40. There’s nothing unique in this version except for better scene. No scene where Zhang Wuji was attacked by special troops from the Zhao Min’s bro, where she had to threaten her brother that she would commit suicide if he didn’t let her and Wuji go, she also tell her brother that she is carrying Wuji’s child (is it in the novel? I read this in the comic though. LOL).

Personally, I think the fighting scene in this series is lame. Slow motion aside, there’s no clear distinction of kungfu skills. Everything looks the same, quoting Zhang Wu Ji, “every skills in the world have the same origin”. Even when he used Heaven and Earth Great Shift to save all the six sects from Wan An Pagoda, I expected to see something unique. I don’t need any special effect, just, I don’t know something that can tell the world, I’m using this skill. And duhh, the way he wanted to jump up and save them, what are you? Terminator or something? or Superman? Thor? or Tony Stark?

The story should just ended with scene where Zhou Zhiruo kidnapped Zhao Min and hid her in the bushes. And she had a heart to heart talk with Zhang Wu Ji. This scene however, is not there.

Honestly it would be great if they lengthen the scene and choreograph a fight scene between Zhou Zhiruo and Miss Yang (Lady in yellow). I think most of us would probably agree to call her Miss Yang (given that we know she is descendant of Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nv). The fact that she beat Zhou Zhiruo with just flicking the petal and blocked her acupoint made it pretty lame and easy. That evil Zhou Zhiruo needs further beating to get back to her senses. LMAO! Yep we know she is above Zhou Zhiruo in many ways, but I believe in previous version of the remake, they actually explained what makes Zhou Zhiruo’s Nine Yin Claw inferior compared to Miss Yang’s Nine Yin Claw (go figure out from other remakes if you haven’t, LOL).

Besides that, Heaven Sword looks the worst in this version compared to the previous version. It looks like some kind of cheap metal you could just pick up. As for Dragon Saber, it looks okay though I believe I have seen a better version.

I still believe 2009 version is a better version of this adaptation. But seriously, let’s just stop will all these remakes. We got sooooo many remakes of Condor Heroes Trilogy already. I know all of the main storylines gathered through years of watching the series. Honestly, out of all these heroes, Yang Guo perhaps is still the best protagonist among them all. And of course, Linghu Chong from Smiling Proud Wanderer. I’m in for another remake of Smiling Proud Wanderer. But please keep using guy as Dongfang Bubai just like the last remake. No more girls. Thanks.

oh and girls with this kind of shroud is very interesting to watch

A sign of good wushu drama for me is whenever I watch it, it makes me wanted to go back and play Age of Wushu again, even just to log in around. This remake however, does not gave me that impact. I guess I was stressful just wanted to finish this one.
