For the 2022 Honda CR-V, being one of the best compact SUVs for 2022 doesn’t come as a surprise. Kelley Blue Book picked the CR-V SUV thanks to its 30 mpg combined fuel economy and safety scores. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Honda SUV mainly received five stars on its crashworthiness tests. The CR-V also earned the Top Safety Pick award, cementing its spot as one of the best compact SUVs for 2022 and 2023.

With a starting price of $26,975, this sport utility vehicle will fit into many budgets. Plus, it performed well on Consumer Reports road test. People are kind of crazy about the Toyota RAV4 Prime, too. That one starts a little higher at $38,350.

If you are looking for something brand new, the 2023 Kia Sportage is about as fresh as it gets. With the redesign, the Sportage has lots of legroom, plenty of space in the cargo area, and 187 hp. Kia equipped the 2023 Sportage with safety features like forward collision warning (FCW), automatic emergency braking (AEB), and lane keeping assist (LKA). Since this Kia SUV is brand new, it hasn’t undergone all of the usual crash testing yet. That doesn’t mean it isn’t one of the best compact SUVs for 2022 and 2023.

Hyundai also hopes to provide this SUV in a plug-in hybrid later this year. The gasoline version returns 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Not to mention, it earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)Top Safety Pick Plus award for this year.
