Top 10 tracks from breath of the wild năm 2024

I’m about three years slow on the up-take here, but my recent experience with the mind-meltingly amazing Nintendo game Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been a revelation for me.

Simply put, the game is stacked with bangers.

Plenty of games have experimented with (and succeeded with!) cinematic cut-scenes, but the Breath of the Wild soundtrack takes cinematic scoring and background music to a whole new level. From Studio Ghibli-esque emotional piano lullabies, to hauntingly sparse background music in its vast landscapes, to weird, funky techno jams, this soundtrack covers the silly, the lonely, the epic, the fun.

Whether or not you’ve played the game, the music is worth a listen. Now that Breath of the Wild 2 has been announced, let the hype accumulate once more. Here are the top 10 tracks of Breath of the Wild’s game-music-altering soundtrack.

10. Riding – Night

Riding horseback at night in the fields and valleys of the massive landscape is a daunting experience – until the soaring strings of the Legend of Zelda theme music sweep you into the night, brimming with confidence. Perfect for a night drive.

9. Korok Forest – Day

Arriving at “frame-drop” forest is a bit of an adventure, so the magical Princess Mononoke forest-esque world of Korok Forest, accompanied by the delightful oboe of the musical theme feels like nothing short of a wonderland. A tune that will get in your head just walking around outside.

8. Dark Beast Ganon Phase 1

After the terrifying (and exhausting) battle versus Calamity Ganon, the soundtrack of Dark Beast Ganon transports you into the atmosphere of a thrilling adventure on the verge of victory. Essentially a clever reprise of the Main Theme, this song can be used as a pump-up jam for facing your own demons.

7. Hateno Village – Day

The site of your eventual literal home and Link’s presumed hometown, Hateno Village is the first place that feels like home in Breath of the Wild that actually has good music. (No disrespect to Kakariko Village, but the Stables music is straight up annoying.) The relaxing music has made this location like a second home to me.

6. Epilogue

One of the rare moments in the game when you hear the actual Legend of Zelda theme, this Epilogue — unlocked only by obtaining all 13 memories –puts a feather in the cap of a beautiful story with an epic reprise that brings the curtain down.

5. Akkala Ancient Laboratory

I can certainly tell you I wasn’t expected a weird techno jam like this one, but you can stand around bopping your head awkwardly to this beat for minutes on end. I keep waiting to walk into some high-tech mechanic shop so I can play this song in my head and it fits, but I’m afraid that might never happen.

4. Mipha’s Theme

Yes, it turned out that Link had a love life, even if it was one-sided (and not involving his side!). The tragedy of Mipha’s story is part of what makes this song so memorable, but the reverse also holds true–the beautiful, gentle theme perfectly encapsulates Mipha’s character and helps her story stick in the mind and even bring a tear to the eye.

3. Tarrey Town – Married

The other place in the game besides Hateno Village, Tarrey Town has a special place in any player’s heart–it’s the town you built from the ground-up, after all! But the beautiful melody and the whimsical elements of all the characters you brought together in the town make Tarrey Town the perfect place to relax and buy and sell some gemstones.

2. Rito Village – Night

Another example of Breath of the Wild music brilliantly weaving together melodies, this chilled-out version of Dragon Roost Island is simply beautiful. It is a perfect fit for the mountainous landscape and idyllic Rito Village and will stick with any player–doubly so for those who enjoyed Dragon Roost Island nearly 20 years ago.

1. Main Theme

It’s hard to express how amazing this theme is. It’s composition is daring and dramatic, it sprints through key changes and unusual harmonic elements, but is held together by consistent melodic themes. Above all, it clearly articulates the world and story of Breath of the Wild: a soaring, epic, dazzling, heart-racing and heart-breaking adventure.
