It is simply OUT OF TOLERANCE with the D750. People have had success in sending back their D750 and 28-70 back to Nikon Repair Center and getting both calibrated and fixed.

Zeroneg1 says: I sympathize your your frustration and to put this on perspective this is probably only one of the handful AF-D lenses that has issues with the D750 among the hundreds of lens type and we were not asked to switch to a totally new lens mount to deal with the needed changes from full analog to electronic film SLRs to DSLRs. I don't know how much that would cost in the UK and it is best that you call your Nikon subsidiary in the UK.

I've been with Nikon for two years now and to be honest their aftercare is pretty poor I had an 85mm 1.8 that didn't work,out the box and took 6 weeks and three returns before it worked correctly. I can't be without my workhorse 28-70mm lens for it to work correctly with my d750 so will put up with it until a new model,body comes out...

Nikon Europe and Nikon UK are different from Nikon USA and I have had no problems with Nikon USA and I've been using Nikon since the late 90s with my N90s. The camera lens mount has its own tolerance and the lens mount of the lens also has one and if both are out of tolerance then the lens would not work. I would probably be pissed off myself if my Nikon 24-70 mm would not work with the D750 or my 70-200 VR II but then again the only AF-D lens I kept is the 28-105 which I now use for architectural subjects and for quick macro.

mo'funk says: I'm surprised that this happened. I loved using the 28-70mm (rental) with my D90. When I was ready to get my D750 I went with the 24-70mm because it focused a hair faster in low light. Yeah I would have been upset too if I had the 28-70mm and it wasn't focusing properly.

mo'funk says: I have the 20mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/2.8. Both are AF-D type lenses and I have no problems with either of them. Get the 24-70mm f/2.8 G. You will love it.

garystafford.co.uk says: So an update on this. My lens broke at Leeds festival i assume due to the torrential rain we endured at the time. The lens stopped autofocus all together and would only operate at f/32 even though the lens only goes to f/22 Sent it back to Nikon for repair where they replaced the main PCB and DC to DC converter at a cost of £480 and it now works perfectly, no issues at all. I asked them if they could return it within two weeks as I had a wedding to shoot and they duly obliged, it was only when the lens was returned that I discovered the repair was done by Fixation so maybe speaking to them directly may be cheaper :-)

garystafford.co.uk says: Kept the D750 as it is brilliant with my Nikon 80-200 2.8 and is now excellent with my 28-70 so very happy sad at the expense and lack of acknowledgement by Nikon about this issue but pleased it's now all good :-) |
