“7 Years” is a single from their first official release, Lukas Graham. It was released as a single via the record labels Copenhagen Records and Warner Bros. Records. His vocals are reminiscent of James Blunt meets Daniel Powter. The song sits at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, after charting for 11 weeks, and it has the potential to be a chart-topping single. It is played consistently on the radio airwaves in New York, and rightfully so.

Released as a digital download on 18 September 2015 through Copenhagen Records, and issued worldwide on 22 October 2015 by Warner Music, the song “7 years” perfectly represents the definitive millennial sound of European soul pop, in all its emotive essence. A general view of the song features an emotional recollection of childhood memories and parental counseling.

“7 Years” is a song by Danish soul pop band Lukas Graham from their second studio album Lukas Graham (Blue Album). The band which started in 2011, consists of Lukas Graham Forchhammer (born September 18, 1988) (vocals), Mark Falgren (born November 28, 1988) (drums), Magnus Larsson (bass) and Kasper Daugaard (born June 14, 1989) (keyboard).

The song “7 years” is based on the life of the band’s vocalist Lukas Graham Forchammer. Written by Lukas Graham Forchammer, Stefan Forrest, Morten Ristorp, and Morten Pilegaard, and produced by Stefan Forrest and Morten Ristorp under their stage name Future Animals, and Morten Pilegaard, “7 years’’ gained successful chart appearances in over 30 countries with quadruple-platinum ratings.

The song begins with a poetic narration of childhood experiences with parental guidance through the rapid progressions of life, as Lukas Graham Forchammer croons:

“Once I was seven years old, my mama told me,

‘Go make yourself some friends or you’ll be lonely.’

Once I was seven years old.”

In these lines we visualize an autobiographical piece laced with powerful vocals and rolling emotions that thrill with an awesome ballad of childhood and future aspirations. The song also tells us our personal stories in a nostalgic continuum of contexts that represent the truths that formed us in the first place.

The singer also celebrates the triumph in telling the same stories his father told him to his own children, about life’s defining moments, as he sings:

“I’m still learning about life

My woman brought children for me

So I can sing them all my songs

And I can tell them stories”

To fully appreciate “7 years” is to read William Wordsworth’s 1802 poem “My Heart Leaps Up’’ over and over again, until you relate the sublime creativity of the 19th Century poem with this 21st Century song, as the poet writes:

‘’My heart leaps up when I behold

A rainbow in the sky:

So was it when my life began;

So is it now I am a man;

So be it when I shall grow old,

Or let me die!

The Child is father of the Man;

And I could wish my days to be

Bound each to each by natural piety.”

“7 years” is pure and simple, a photographic story of our lives; drawing us into the warm waters of empathy. The song is a lyrical masterpiece that redefines the innocence of human growth, and paints life’s lessons on a canvas of well-crafted poetry via amazing story-telling and a spontaneity that narrates the reality we often ignore: as the beginning connects with the end and the present animates the future.
