Gentle black deep cleansing oil review

In today’s post I’ll be sharing my review of the Klairs Gentle Black Fresh Cleansing Oil that was kindly gifted to me by Wishtrend in exchange for an honest review.

When it comes to cleansing oils, I usually turn to the same cult favourite brand that I’ve been using for 13 years, however last year I tried a small sample sachet of the original Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil which I also enjoyed using however the essential oil content kept me from purchasing it, so when Klairs/ Wishtrend announced that they have made a milder essential oil-free version of their cleansing oil I was excited to try it and have been using it as a 1st cleanser everyday since I received it.

In today’s post I’ll first share some general information about the Klairs Gentle Black Fresh Cleansing Oil and then talk about my personal experience with it so far.

My Experience

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I’ve been using this cleansing oil everyday since I received it in February. I use it as a first cleanser and follow up with a different water based second cleanser.

When applying it on the skin, it has a very smooth texture which glides effortlessly. One of the things I love about using this cleansing oil is that while massaging it in I can feel gritty bits of sebaceous filaments coming out and my skin feels really smooth after. Once water is added, it emulsifies really well into a milky substance and when completely washed off it doesn’t leave my skin feeling stripped of its natural oils but does leave a very slight residue which goes away after I use a second gel or foam cleanser.

I found that 1 pump of the oil works well for a daily first cleanse on days when I’m not wearing any makeup, 2 pumps work well for light makeup and sunscreen removal, and 3 pumps removes a full face of makeup including mascara effectively.

I also did a makeup removal test on the back of my hand for blog photo purposes and it seemed to work well with just one pump of oil massaging it in for 60 seconds and emulsifying it with water but as makeup grips differently to the face and lashes I found that 3 pumps is a lot more accurate as it provides a better glide and less friction.

For reference, the makeup on the back of my hand in the photo below is: Etude House Drawing Eyebrow Pencil Brown, Clio Kill Black Brush Liner Black, Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipstick Nude–Ist, Kiss Me Heroine Make Long and Curl Waterproof Mascara, and Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer Warm Light.

I’ve mentioned previously on my blog that if I use oil cleansers to remove eye makeup, no matter how gentle or careful I am I still get mascara residue in my eyes making them either irritated or blurry, and as expected the same happened with this oil cleanser but it wasn’t as much as I’ve experienced with others; even still I prefer to use it just on my face and avoid my eyes.

For the face I think the Klairs Gentle Black Fresh Cleansing Oil is an excellent gentle oil cleanser that does a great job at improving the texture of my skin by helping to unclog pores, and for that reason plus the fact that it is fragrance free and doesn’t contain essential oils, it gets a thumbs up from me!

Where to purchase and cost? The Klairs Gentle Black Fresh Cleansing Oil costs $24 and can be purchased on the Wishtrend website.
