A staple of many Insta-famous makeup artists, I’d seen the gorgeous Farsali 24k Rose Gold Elixir dripping down the faces of most of my faves for some time before finally deciding to try it myself.

Having quite oily skin I wasn’t sure it would be the best for me, however aside from looking amazing as a makeup base and to help blend contouring, I’d also started to realise the extra ways it could be used which prompted me to finally buy.

About the product

As the name suggests, it contains gold flakes which makes for a luxurious AF product! If you like being extra, and feeling like a queen everyday then this is a must have for you!

Despite my fear of using it on my oily skin, it’s actually suitable for all skin types and is perfect for everyday use as a lightwear moisturiser to help keep your skin soft and hydrated. The gold flakes also absorb into your skin, helping to leave it with a natural radiant glow.

The base is Rosehip seed oil, which is made up of essential fatty acids like linoleic and linolenic acids, as well as Vitamin C and Vitamin A (retinol) which are all essential nutrients for healthy skin. Rosehip is also a cult skincare product on it’s own, as studies have shown it can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines, hyperpigmentation and stretch marks, as well as assisting in tissue regeneration.

It also has an AMAZING citrus flavoured smell which is actually one of my favourite things about this product. All benefits and fanciness aside, it honestly just smells so good!

Usage and application

• As a moisturiser To use as an everyday moisturiser, simply add onto the end of your skincare routine, massaging in 1-3 drops into clean skin. As it is superhydrating and nourishing, you may not need to use with other serums or mosturisers (depending on your skin).
• As a makeup base Apply 1-3 drops of this oil in place of a primer, to leave your skin with a super smooth and radiant finish. It also helps your foundation and contour products to blend, creating a flawless finish. Or, you can also mix into your foundation as you apply.
• To hydrate your lips Gently massage the oil onto your lips to keep them super soft and hydrated before applying and lip colour products, allowing the oil to dry first. This is especially helpful for matte lip products which can be super drying. As someone who loves liquid lipsticks, this was one of the major reasons I wanted to buy this product!
• To revive dried cream products This use was also a major selling point for me. I use a lot of different products, and it’s always so disappointing when they dry up and just don’t apply as well. My eyebrow gel had dried up lately so I tried this out by adding a small drop into the product and mixing in – viola! It was like new! For easy and flawless application of products it really is essential that you have: a) the right brushes and b) product that applies smoothly and easily.

Verdict

Yes, it may seem expensive, but depending on how much you use it should last a long time. I honestly think it’s a beauty cabinet staple as it can be used in multiple ways, and anything that helps extend the life of your products and helps to provide a flawless finish is a must for me!

Even if you aren't an avid stalker of beauty bloggers' Instagram accounts like I am, you've likely come across Farsáli's Rose Gold Elixir. The gold-flecked oil has been advertised on some of Instagram’s most famous accounts—Huda Beauty, Nicole Concilio, ILuvSarahii—and boasts myriad benefits as a daily moisturizer, anti-aging serum, and primer. The product was created by Sal Ali, a product developer and husband to mega-blogger Farah Dhukai. Dhukai had expressed frustration with the absence of simple, skin-loving ingredients in most of her makeup, thus inspiring this versatile oil.

Hype aside, I was quite skeptical of this product at first, like I am of most products advertised on Instagram. I equate as-seen-on-social-media products with as-seen-on-TV products. They just seem too good to be true. However, as a genuine beauty lover, I was intrigued. I got my hands on a bottle, and despite the odds, I soon began my love affair with Farsáli oil.

The Feel

This elixir has a thicker consistency than other oils I've tried, but that doesn't mean it feels heavy or greasy. It's still lightweight and absorbs into the skin pretty quickly. It also has an Instagram-ready look, thanks to the tiny 24-karat gold flecks that are infused into the formula.

What makes this elixir unique is that it's perfect texture for using on its own as a moisturizer at the end of our skincare routine, or you can mix it into your foundation like all the Instagram beauty gurus. Either way, you're left with a dewy, hydrated glow that looks super natural.

The Ingredients

The incredible scent is what struck me first. (I wonder if they'd consider making this into a perfume?) It’s delicate and citrusy, thanks to the orange peel and lemongrass oils, two of only six total ingredients. But be warned, one of the biggest user complaints is the scent, which some people compare to cooking oil. Pumpkin seed oil, vitamin E, 24-karat gold, and rosehip oil round out the list (which seems to have been taken from my personal skincare dreams).

• Rosehip oil: The base of the elixir, rosehip oil is one of those skincare ingredients that does nearly everything—it hydrates and moisturizes, treats wrinkles, fades scars, evens out skin tone, and even helps treat acne. It's chock full of good-for-your-skin antioxidants and essential fatty acids that both nourish the skin and strengthen your moisture barrier.
• Pumpkin seed oil: Pumpkin seed oil is jam-packed with Vitamin E, which helps protect your skin from environmental stressors like the sun, wind, and pollution.
• 24-karat gold: Probably the most "controversial" ingredient on the list, as the jury is still out on if it actually has any real skincare benefits. It's been thought that gold helps treat wrinkles, is anti-inflammatory, and also acts as an antibacterial ingredient. The reality is, there just haven't been enough studies to prove its efficacy. It does, however, look gorgeous in the formula and adds a luxe aesthetic to your skincare routine (if that's your thing).

The Results

As for application, I took the advice of several bloggers and decided to blend the oil with my foundation, a technique that promises to keep your skin glowy and hydrated all day long. I added a couple drops to my Beautyblender before applying Revlon's Colorstay 24 Hour Foundation ($14). Mixed with the oil, the texture of my foundation changed, becoming more blendable and fluid without altering the coverage. The radiance boost was immediate and significant, so much so that I opted to go sans highlighter. The glow didn’t fade throughout the day, and my skin stayed soft and moisturized. I did end up swiping on translucent powder at lunch when I noticed some shine, but it was a small price to pay for all-day luminescence.

Mixed with the oil, the texture of my foundation changed, becoming more blendable and fluid without altering the coverage.

Next on my agenda was to apply the oil on a makeup-free face. The oil soothed my tired skin and offered an intense dose of moisture that lasted for hours. Just like the day before, it lent my skin a healthy glow, making me slightly less self-conscience about going bare-faced.

The product also claims to reduce hyper-pigmentation, fine lines, and stretch marks, thanks to the natural retinol found in rosehip oil. I can't attest to this quite yet, seeing as this product is fairly new to my skincare arsenal. But I'm optimistic.

The Value

With a retail price of $54, Farsáli's Rose Gold Elixir sits firmly in the middle of the oil product price range. It's not the cheapest in the bunch, but definitely affordable if you plan for it in your budget. And since it's a multi-use product, you definitely get more bang for your buck.

It's rich in vitamin A, an ingredient that fights aging and strengthens your moisture barrier. It's also super wallet-friendly at $10.

Our Verdict

I can say wholeheartedly that I'm in love with the Farsáli Rose Gold Elixir and would recommend it to any and everyone. The formula is so lightweight and simple that I feel at ease using it every day. No breakouts in sight, I've continued blending it into my skin each and every morning.
