Dbpower t20 review pros and cons

If you’re someone who likes to view or watch media on a much larger scale, a projector can be the perfect thing for the job. Some projectors can be larger and bulky, but if you’re looking for a smaller one, this mini projector by DBPower is a good option.

Although the DBPower T20 1500 Lumens LCD Mini Projector isn’t recommended for PPT or business presentations, it’s perfect for watching movies, playing video games, mirroring your mobile device, feeding your nostalgia with home movies and special events (such as weddings), and much more.

You can connect many types of devices to it such as a camera, HD set-top box, laptop, media player, USB drive, game console, computer, or mobile device. Personally, I am using it with an Android TV box. Here’s a closer look at this affordable projector.

Inside the Mini Projector Box

Along with the mini projector, you’ll find the following inside the box:

  • User Manual
  • Power Cable
  • 3-in-1 AV Cable
  • HDMI Cable
  • Remote Control
  • 1 Screw

Physical Aspects of the Mini Projector

Even though it comes with a basic remote control, there are also navigation buttons on top of the projector. You’ll find buttons for power, source, menu, back, and OK/enter, along with arrows for moving around the screen.

Additionally, there are two knobs for adjusting the focus and keystone (to skew the output) as you see fit. I find the keystone feature especially helpful when watching in bed so that the angle of the video is better suited for lying down.

On the back and side of the projector there are ample ports and jacks to suit all your needs: headphone, AV, USB, SD card, , and AVG. Personally, I only need the HDMI port for connecting my Android TV box, but it’s really convenient to have all the other options just in case.

Setting Up and Using the Mini Projector

Using the DBPower T20 1500 Lumens LCD Mini Projector is literally as easy as 1-2-3. I connected the power cable and plugged it in, connected the HDMI cable from my Android TV box (which was already set up) and plugged it in, and lastly, turned everything on.

I didn’t have to do anything on the actual projector; it automatically detected my Android TV box and started showing it on the screen (or should I say the sheet since that’s what I’m currently using).

I can’t speak for the other methods, but if need be there are some source options on the actual projector that you can select if it’s not detecting it automatically. You can access the above-pictured options by pressing the “S” button on top of the projector.

One feature that I do use from the projector’s settings is “Off Time.” My husband and I often fall asleep with the projector on, which isn’t good since it shortens the lifespan of the bulb (which is a generous 50k hours). However, this feature allows you to set a specific time for it to go off – just make sure you set the clock first.

I also love how quiet the projector’s fan is. You cannot hear it unless you’re standing right next to it, and even then it’s really low. The previous projector we were using was so loud that you could hear it downstairs, and you’d have to turn the speaker volume up twice as loud. (A speaker is connected to the Android TV box.)

Does It Deliver on Quality?

Before getting into the quality, I do want to point out the specs of the DBPower T20 1500 Lumens LCD Mini Project:

  • Imaging technology: TFT LCD
  • Brightness: 1500 lumens
  • Contrast: 1000:1
  • Aspect ratio: 16:10
  • Projection ratio: 1.4:1
  • Native resolution: 800X480 pixels
  • Supported resolution: 1920X1080 pixels
  • Keystone: Manual correction 15°
  • Throw distance: 1.5-5M
  • Screen size: 32-176 inches

Being as the projector can display a maximum of 1080p, I tested it out with a 1080p movie: Trolls. After adjusting the focus and ensuring in settings that it was playing at the highest quality, I must say that I’m really impressed.

There was a lot of movement going on, and as I mentioned already, I am watching on a sheet and not an actual projector screen. However, even with all that, the quality is still pretty amazing! You can see the little details on the trolls, the colors are vibrant and the clarity is great. My husband and I have no complaints.

Final Thoughts

For the price you’re paying, I think this mini projector is a great value. It’s easy to set up and even easier to use.

If you are setting up a media or game room in your home and have a small budget, this is a great projector to start with; you won’t have to be embarrassed by the quality when friends and family come over. Sure, 1080p isn’t the best quality these days, but for many (myself included), it’s just fine and gets the job done beautifully.
