Now, Sennheiser has released yet another portable pair with pretty much the same look, but for $100 less expensive. They are the Sennheiser CX 6.00BT earphones and for just $99, I’m curious to see how they perform. Today, I’ll give it a test with this Sennheiser CX 6.00BT Bluetooth wireless earphones review. For example, the driver housings are the perfect size because they’re small without being flimsy. Folks with small ear canals will rejoice (as I did!) because the eartips provided in the box will particularly help them. Additionally, the cable which connects the two ear pieces stays out of the way, and throughout my listening session I forgot about it. DurabilityThe build of the Sennheiser CX 6.00BT earphones feels solid. While its driver housings are made of plastic, its quality assurance seems top notch. However, plastic driver housings could get damaged over time so it is worth keeping them safe in their case when not using them. Lastly, the cable is short so it seems unlikely to tangle and get yanked. BluetoothBattery life-wise, the Sennheiser CX 6.00BT lasts for just 6 hours. While this is less than other competitors it is actually not bad considering its petite size. Additionally, 10 minutes of charging yields two hours of playback and when you connect the earphones, a voice talks from the headset with the approximate number of horus left in the battery. In addition to connecting via Bluetooth 4.2, it can also connect via aptX and aptX Low Latency. Its connection range was impressive. It reached over 30 feet, although lost connection once out of line of site. SoundLowsThe low frequencies of the Sennheiser CX 6.00 BT in-ears are balanced and full. Relative to the high frequencies, it’s a little bit low. However, on its own it can still reproduce a good amount of low end energy, especially down around 60 Hz. Additionally, there is a lot frequency bump at 100 Hz which lends support to orchestra and rock bands. However, due to the relative brightness of the high frequencies, the lows don’t hit quite hard enough for genres that typically require a lot of low end for impact like EDM and hip-hop. MidsThe low mids feel full up until around 300 Hz, so bass guitars and the very bottom range of electric guitars have body. However, there is a scoop at around 500 Hz, and as a result, guitars, strings, and vocals feel a bit more thin than they would otherwise. The high mids are accented at 3 kHz and 5 kHz as well so vocals don’t actually sound quieter in the mix, just a little bit less natural than normal. However, they also have a crispiness that sounds good with hip-hop vocals. This boost also accentuates the attack on drums. HighsA boost at 6 kHz, carrying over from the high-mid range contributes to a bit of vocal sibilance in some mixes. Additionally, cymbals sit higher in the mix than normal because of boosts at 10 kHz and 12 kHz. As a result, rock music with a lot of cymbal crashes and high hat work sounds harsh, while other, less cymbal rich music benefits from the added brightness. Podcast vocals actually worked quite well. It really just depends on the genre and mix whether or not the highs are too much. SoundstageThis high frequency energy contributes to the height of the soundstage. However, the lack of thickness in the mids makes the sense of depth not as strong. Lastly, the sense of left-to-right feels accurate overall. OverviewFor just $99, the Sennheiser CX 6.00BT is a great set of earphones. While its sound signature favors podcasts and/or hip-hop over other genres, they perform well and have a strong Bluetooth connection. |
