I’ve been looking at the 3CE Velvet Lip Tints for a while and I finally made the decision to buy a couple of the shades and try out the velvet formula. Yayy 😀 There were so many shades to chose from, with a mix of everyday pinks and reds as well as purpley mauve shades and mlbb nudes ❤

After watching many swatch videos and reading reviews (like this one 😉), I was curious as to whether they were as good as they seemed. I’m always the sceptical one haha~ I purchased New Nude (“a warm peach beige”) and Pink Break (“a natural pink”).

Keep going to see if they impressed me… or not 😮

Product Shade Range:

The Packaging:

The lip tint comes in an incredibly smooth matte tube – it’s so smooth that its really satisfying to touch it! I love how the shade is instantly visible from the colour on the outside, helping you to tell multiple shades apart easily 🙂

When you unscrew the lid, there is a small doe-foot applicator on the end. Overall, the packaging feels sturdy and good quality .

The Consistency:

When you first apply this, the tint has a soft, velvety mousse-like formula. By comparison, the Peripera Ink Airy Velvet lip tints I tried had a thicker consistency. Both are super easy to blend out and feel very soft 🙂

New Nude is a strong orange nude (not as deep as the picture looks) and Pink Break is a vibrant red pink! Pink Break stains more than New Nude.

In terms of scent, it smells like very sweet and vanilla-like which I don’t mind too much but it’s not my favourite ¬.¬

The Performance:

New Nude: I’ve never tried a shade like this! It’s described as a warm, neutral peach-beige on the Stylenanda (3CE) website which is pretty accurate. Since I have a more neutral skin tone, I like to wear this colour with a warm blush and eyeshadow to match 🙂

Pink Break: Stylenanda describes this shade as a demure, natural pink. I don’t find it “demure” as a full lip but maybe as a gradient lip? Whether I apply this on my lips or swatch it on the back of my hand, Pink Break is a bright, cool pink-red shade. I was hoping for a more muted pink (like all the online pictures) but it is much brighter on me.

Both shades were easy to apply, thanks to their soft moussey texture however I would not describe these as lightweight on my lips (when applied as a full lip). One thing I found with the brush was that I ran out of product about 3/4 of the way through application and had to dip the wand in again, which isn’t something I’ve had with other lip products.

New Nude is less forgiving on dry patches or texture than Pink Break so it’s definitely a shade which requires some preparation before applying! These tints take a few minutes to dry down fully, leaving a powdery soft velvet finish. During this time, I have to avoid pressing my lips together otherwise the formula transfers more to my top lip, which causes the tint to cling to dry patches and settle into lines in my bottom lip ㅠ.ㅠ

Throughout the day, the tint starts to cling more to dry patches and settle more into lip lines which I don’t like 😦 My lips start to feel dry when this happens noooo 😩 Also, this happened each time when I applied it straight on to my lips, when I exfoliated my lips right before AND when my lips were well moisturised!

As for reapplication, I find it is better to remove whatever is left and do a fresh application rather than layering on top otherwise, you guessed it, it looks dry.

Update: Since I’ve been determined to find a way to make these tints work (these weren’t cheap -_-), I found if I layer another tint underneath (a thin, matte formula) which sits well on dry lips, it makes the 3CE tints apply much smoother and my lips don’t look dry – success!

Pros:

Nice shade range

Attractive and smooth packaging!

Soft mousse texture makes application easy

Cons:

Online colour swatches aren’t as bright as the actual shades

Becomes drying over time

Clings to dry patches and settles into lip lines after an hour or two

Overall Rating:

2.5/5

I wanted to like the 3CE Velvet Lip Tints so much – I was even planning to collect them cos of the packaging 😍 However, like with the Peripera Airy Ink Velvets, these just did not perform well for my dry lips 😥

These tints apply smoothly and have a lovely, soft mousse texture as well as a pretty good shade range! I’m also a fan of the smooth packaging which allows you to easily tell shades apart 🙂

On the downside, these start to cling to dry patches and settle into lip lines after an hour or two for me 😦 I’ve found if I wear a thinner lip tint underneath that doesn’t dry my lips (like a barrier), then layer these on top, I can make them work. However if I’m buying a lip tint, I would want it to work well enough on its own so I’m not adding any points for that!

All in all, I would recommend these for people without dry lips who like the velvet matte type of finish! I’m sure there will be a shade you like the look of .
