Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15)Javier Ávila is a distinguished educator who taught at the University of Puerto Rico and at Northampton Community College. He received the 2015 Pennsylvania Professor of the Year Award for his amazing work with students. Ávila is also a renowned poet and novelist whose literary excellence propelled him to international recognition. Celebrates and recognizes the contributions Hispanic/Latinx Americans have made to American society and culture and to honor five of our Central American neighbors who celebrate their Independence days in September. National Disability Employment Awareness Month (October)Celebrates the accomplishments in the workplace of persons with disabilities and reaffirms the commitment to ensuring equal employment opportunities to all citizens. Women's History Month (March)Celebrates the struggles and achievements of American women throughout the history of the United States. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Pride Month (April/June)Commemorates the events of June 1969 and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for LGBTQ Americans. Celebrated at UB in April. The first Pride Parade and Festival hosted by the Intercultural and Diversity Center in April 2019. The group marched down the academic spine on North Campus and enjoyed a small festival in the Student Union lobby.
