The X-A10 is 3 years newer and will have a better processor. Seems like a simple choice, no? Are they the same price?

They both have the same processor, but it’s possible that the newer X-A10 might have some improvements. The X-A10 is more expensive being newer and in seemingly better shape. I’m leaning towards it but hoping for opinions from users who have had hands on experiences with both cameras. Specially if any difference in screen brightness.

I’m shocked that it’s the same processor but you are probably right! No changes in burst speed or video capabilities.

Personally I would avoid any of the X-A series and spend a bit more on an X-E2/3 or X-T10/20 unless you want the kit lens. Unless you get an incredible deal on the X-A1/10 or really want that kit lens, i find the non-Xtrans Fuji cameras to lack the Fuji magic.

What is it about the X-A cameras that appeals to you?

Take into consideration that the X-A, X-M series and X-T100/200 were not made by fuji directly and do not have an X-Trans sensor, which is part of the fujifilm „magic“.

i‘d say find a second hand X-E1/2 or X-T10…i found an X-E1, my first fuji camera, for something like 150€ used…

Actually the X-A10 has slightly better burst speed on paper. But I read that the X-A1 has deeper buffer depth. Anyway I’m not concerned with that. There are awkward differences between the two related to the fact that one (X-A1) is on a higher model range (one digit number), and the other is newer.

I’m looking into the X-A models, and specifically the older ones with the 16mpx sensor where I believe the Fuji magic lies (my opinion based on studio tests and samples I’ve seen), regardless of X-Trans or Bayer, because they are basically affordable models, and I can thus find one for a good deal and in very good condition. I’m also looking for the most compact model (no evf) and a tilt screen, not fixed nor fully articulated. So very precise requirements.

I’m lucky on having found on local market an X-A1 in very good condition and an X-A10 in pristine condition. Looking to decide which one I get, if they don’t get sold before.

I’m really not annoyed by the Bayer sensor. And I’m looking for the most compact camera (no evf) and a tilt screen. And the EVFs on those lower end Fuji cameras like X-T10 are uncomfortable for me. Can’t see well through them as I’m a glass wearer.

Which would be the better autofocus performer (if any difference) in lower light stills shooting with mostly still subjects, maybe some movement? Which is better built, and which has the best/brightest screen? These three factors matter to me. On paper the X-A10 has the better battery life. Thank you.

It all depends on any add on`s you might like.

The XA10 has no hot shoe, the XA1 does, so with the XA1 you could add a flash or a cheap optical viewfinder(handy in bright light)

The X-A10 is essentially a X-A2 without the hotshoe and some features missing to make it more affordable. But AF performance wont be any different as both use contrast detect AF. The X-A1 feels considerably better built than the X-A10. The X-A10 felt really cheap with hard plastic (The dials were still metal) and I sold it almost immediately. It also had some firmware issues too that bothered me (Magnified view had a firmware bug with non-native lenses, where the LCD screen became blurry). The X-A10 did have a better resolution LCD than the X-A1.

If LCD visibility under the sun (or in bright-light environment) is important to you please note X-A1 features "Sunlight Monitor mode" activated by holding the "Q" button. It makes life easier to compose under the said environment. Another hold the the "Q" button de-activates it.

X-A10 does not have this feature.

I didn't consider beforehand having a use for the hotshoe. I'm just looking for a compact camera to use casually. But who knows I might have a use for such a viewfinder as I'm looking to mount on the camera a prime lens. Never paid attention to those. Thank you.

According to all your answers, it would seem that, despite the X-A1 being an older model, it is the superior camera, being of higher model range. The X-A10 may have better battery life and higher screen resolution (not sure if it practically makes a difference), but the X-A1 also has key features that are important to me. You've all been a great help. Thank you.

@ Swerky,

X-MI while not listed in your options also features "monitor sunlight mode". I have an X-MI but have not used an X-A1 yet according to information on the internet the only difference is X-MI has a x-trans sensor while X-A1 has a Bayer sensor, if that is something you might consider.

I asked a question not too dissimilar from this a few weeks back. Basically I was also looking for a small ‘pocketable’ Fuji that I could use my existing lenses on. My initial searches took me between these two cameras you mention as well as the X-M1. I also browsed the X-A3/5. However, if you didn’t catch that thread I actually ended up getting an X-E1 and was not disappointed. I’m not sure what the market is like with you but I was struggling to find any good condition models of the X-A/M cameras for much less than £150 here in the UK. I then found an X-E1 for £165 which I was super happy with. Just a thought.

Thank you hwchiu. I based my options over whatever is available on the used market. Fuji isn’t as popular as Nikon or Canon here. Hard to find good deals. X-T cameras are more popular. The X-A1 fits the ticket. As you said it’s an X-M1 with Bayer sensor. Also different body texture (dot pattern that I prefer).

Haven’t seen your thread. It is also hard to find X-A/M models in good condition, if at all, in my country. X-T models are more popular. I was lucky to have found both an X-A1 and X-A10. X-E series don’t fit my demands as I require a tilt screen. Only the X-E4 has it and that’s too expensive. Thank you!

This is incorrect information.

The X-M1 most definitely has an X-Trans sensor, the same sensor as the X-Pro1 and X-E1. ... Thus the same X-Trans "magic" (if there is such a thing).

I'm not sure why you say it wasn't made by Fuji.
